Following the popular releases from the CoolBoarders series, the snowboarding genre is moving onto next generation platforms in the form of Dark Summit. Already released on Xbox, Dark Summit is now available on PlayStation 2. It may be slightly less impressive in the visuals department, but it packs in all the gameplay of the Xbox version, and then some.
There is something different about this mountain-based adventure that sets it apart from the rest. Dark Summit focuses greatly upon plot development. In a completely original idea, Dark Summit has been designed as a mission-based snowboarding game.
Dark Summits gameplay focuses on Mountt Garrick, a peaceful ski resort reserved for only the most upstanding citizens of the region. Snowboarders are strictly forbidden. As a snowboarder, and with the mountain officially off limits, you must evade Chief OLearys attempts to remove you from his mountain and banish him from Mount Garrick for good.
Each mission comes with several objectives that must be fulfilled to proceed to later stages of the game. All levels require your snowboarding expertise and you must perform seemingly impossible stunts to survive OLearys onslaught.
Further areas of the mountain will be unlocked depending the players performance, and by earning status points, you can improve your rank on the mountain and earn greater respect from your rebellious companions.
The PlayStation 2 version of Dark Summit has one single most important advantage over the Xbox version the controller. Where the Xbox controls were often tricky due to the close proximity of the button layout, Sonys good old dual shock controller still offers the most comfortable playing experience, and with games like Dark Summit, thats a crucial quality.
