The typically Disney storyline goes something like this: You are on a journey to discover the lost civilisation of Atlantis, a land shrouded in mystery for thousands of years. But the city is controlled and maintained by a mighty crystal that, if it fell into the hands of evil, could destroy everything, including Atlantis. Your task is to find the crysatal and keep it safe.

Developed on technology that’s now over ten years old, The Lost Empire for Game Boy Color looks sweet. While it may not be as graphically accomplished as its Game Boy Advance counterpart, the environments demonstrate an accurate representation of the big screen original and are surprisingly detailed.

Gameplay is built around 15 challenging levels, complete with a number of bosses, and consists of several types of challenges. Platform elements such as running and jumping are essential, as well as combat elements that are used to fight and dispose of some nasty creatures.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire is a challenging game, interspersed with a classic Disney storyline, and that’s great. << less
