Half Life is widely regarded as the ultimate single-player first person shooter. Don’t think for a second that it can’t hold it’s own in the multi-player modes as well. The latest add on pack, Generations 2 includes the original Half Life, Classic Team Fortress, Opposing Forces and finally, Counter Strike.

When released back in 1998 Half-Life made a big impression on the PC gaming industry, but also on the PC graphics industry as a whole. Half-Life showed what a high end PC was truly capable of when attached to a top 3D accelerator. Using an advanced game and graphics engine, developers Valve were able to create some of the most cunning AI monsters around. No longer can you shoot everything you see, as something that may appear to be evil, may in fact be crucial to your success within the world of Black Mesa. You must judge your opposition carefully and make a conscious decision as to whether they will be of any use. Because the plot is so strong, Half Life is the gaming equivalent of an interactive novel or film.

Included in Generations 2 is the Team Fortress add-on. This is essentially a multi-player version of Half-Life. What makes this add on special is the different character classes that you can choose for your characters. You can pick either a medic, solider or engineer. Each class has it’s own weapons, items, abilities and style of play. These attributes add an all-new tactical edge to the multi-player mayhem.

In Opposing Forces you return to the Black Mesa facility once again, but this time as a soldier. Your mission is to eliminate Gordon Freeman. Soon you will learn about the inter-dimensional accident and the hideous creatures that have emerged. Luckily, as a member of the military you are not unarmed. Opposing Forces features a fresh new slant on the Half Life world with new characters, weapons, and brand new multi-player levels as well.

What makes this new version of Generation stand out is the inclusion of the extremely popular Counter-Strike modification. Counter-Strike is where one team assumes the role of terrorists and the other team becomes an anti-terrorist unit. Each side has different guns and weapons and the objectives vary for each side. For example only the terrorists can use the AK-47s. Each map has different missions such as hostage rescue, bomb diffusion and assassination. This is one of the most addictive game modifications, ever.

There is so much gameplay in Half Life Generation that you might neglect all of your other games. An excellent compilation.
