In 1998 there are some strange occurrences at the secret experimental labs of the DBR Corporation, several leading scientists have gone missing. Their safety is of utmost importance and strange rumours have begun emanating about the events at the labs.

In House of the Dead armies of un-dead zombies constantly attack you from every direction. You must kill them before they get to you. They often require more than one shot, as just having one arm will not stop an evil zombie. We recommend you go for headshots as often as possible. What adds to the re-playability of HOTD is that throughout the game there are several alternative routes that you can progress down. If you manage to rescue a scientist before they are killed you will travel down an different path. At the end of each level you will take on a boss character that can only be damaged by hitting their weak spot.

In the arcades The House of the Dead was played with a light-gun. The control method has been altered for the PC version and now you control your aiming with your mouse. Left button fires and right mouse button reloads your gun. Although this doesn’t have the same feel but it does offer two distinct advantages. Your arm doesn’t get tired from constantly holding a gun in front of you and you can reload without shooting off the screen, ideal for keeping your shots in the exact area that you want.

Try to complete the game with the default health and continue settings and you will find a challenging game here. You can also opt for the PC mode where you have a choice of characters with varying attributes like reload times and shot damage.

The House of the Dead has recently been released at a budget price, making it even more desirable. The arcade mode, PC mode, boss mode, and two-player mode all add up to produce a rewarding arcade style gaming experience.
