How many of you are familiar with the term “Button Bashing?” You either know it or you don’t. I’m talking about Track and Field. New for 2000, the Nintendo 64 controllers finally receive their button bashing treatment in the form of International Track and Field – Summer Games.

This title is the first 64-bit version to become available, and as such could be a much-wanted title for many athletics fans out there. T&F for N64 comprises of 14 individual events, only ten of which are accessible from the off. Other events have to be earned in the most painful way. Button bashing. The veterans out there will know that there are two techniques to button bashing. One, is the sweat inducing use of a pillow case to put your arm into spasm, and the other is the slower, more timed approach. It is advisable that you consider the slow approach, as the layout of the Nintendo 64’s controller, is not button bashing friendly.

T&F is realistic, but only if played in the way it was intended; one finger to one button. If you decide to use the pillowcase as a prop, then you will probably find yourself running the 100meter dash in less than eight seconds. It does add to the fun though. When played in multiplayer, the figures of the game become less relevant, as T&F strongest asset becomes apparent.

While not brilliant with a Nintendo controller, this title will give you a fantastic workout if you play if for long enough, and I’m sure you will. << less
