Summary

Capcom’s entry into the survival horror genre five years ago proved to be one of their greatest triumphs in the history of the company. Five years on, and Capcom are continuing to bring these chilling interactive stories to the home console market. After the success of Dino Crisis, a sequel was inevitable, and Dino Crisis 2 is a further example of what the company is capable of.

A number of changes have been made for the second instalment of this dinosaur-ridden adventure. The most significant change in direction for the series is the surprising transition from 3D to 2D. Where the first game was played in 3D, the second consists of static pre-rendered backdrops, Resident Evil style. Players of the original will also notice a change in gameplay. Dino Crisis 2 is evidently more combat-based than its predecessor, bringing lots more on-screen action. You will also be scored in certain sections of the game on your killing abilities. Finally, you are now able to take control of two characters, giving DC2 a greater sense of longevity.

In all, there are enough alterations to this sequel to warrant owners of the original taking another look; and newcomers to take a look at both titles.
