Summary

Strategy games have come a long way in recent years, perhaps due to the ongoing developments and technological advances of the home computer. Most of the games within this genre tend to be a little too serious, such as the Age of Empires series, but Cultures promises to be a fun, well put together game for the PC.

Cultures is all about a small group of people who set about finding pieces of a broken comet, which they believed was the sun falling out of the sky. Upon their travels in a Viking boat, they eventually come across the shores of North America, which turns out to be a rich and fertile land, so they decide to settle. This is where you come in; you must use your skills as a god to create a whole new civilisation. Beginning with just four civilians and a small amount of resources, you must give your people, jobs, supplies, and even help finding a spouse to mate with. Once mated, you will have a new child, who you can watch grow quite rapidly into a healthy adult, who will then find his/her own spouse, and so on. Once you get the ball rolling and expand deeper into the American continent, your small family will soon turn into a whole new civilisation.

This is a fun game from THQ, with some great music and lovely gameplay. Fans of the genre will relish Cultures.
