Developers, and soon to be publishers, Capcom, made a huge impact within the video games industry when the infamous Resident Evil series made its first appearance back in 1996. From that day forth, the survival horror genre has been going strong. Keen to exploit the genres popularity, Capcom took it upon themselves to develop Dino Crisis.
Originally released on PlayStation, this PC-enhanced version promises much smoother visuals and improved loading times. Visual prowess is most apparent in the level of detail on dinosaur models, particularly the T-Rex. Superb animation, similar to Steven Spielbergs Jurassic Park, also improves Dino Crisis realism. In a vain attempt to depart from the Resident Evil genre, Dino Crisis has been developed in full 3D, but players already familiar with the Resident Evil series will instantly recognise the blatant similarities between the two games.
An arsenal of weapons is available for you to use in your mission against these giant carnivorous beasts. This includes the almost useless handgun, and the more damaging shotgun. Dino Crisis does, however, maintain a very atmospheric environment. You can no longer escape from Raptors into nearby safe-houses. If you do not dispose of them immediately, they will chase you, and chase you, and chase you, until you meet your death.
While the similarities to Capcoms other ventures into the world of horror remain apparent, Dino Crisis is still one hell of a scary game. Capcom's approach of if it aint broke, dont fix it seems to have paid off; this time. << less
