There are many gameplay modes that you can choose from in this sequel. Arcade Mode is where you have four races to make it to first place. Time Attack lets you set quick laps on a track and then attempt to break them. Great fun, especially when a friend beats your immaculate lap by less than a hundredth of a second. This mode keeps you coming back. Sega Rally 2 also features a 10 year Championship Mode, with each year bringing a different selection of courses, weather conditions and time of day. If you manage to come first in any year you will be rewarded with a bonus car. All cars are customisable to suit your particular driving style.

Sega Rally 2 is an excellent arcade-style racing game. The in-game mechanics do not recognise that driving around a corner sideways slows you down. This would only take away from the fun, and fun is what this game is about. The graphics are well done and the draw distance is almost to the horizon. If you have a decent graphics card, 60 frames per second and 800 x 600 resolution make this look better than the Dreamcast version.

Sega have massive amounts of experience when it comes to producing quality racing games. Out Run, Daytona USA and Sega Rally all deserve places on the historical timeline of the racing game genre. Sega Rally 2 has earned its place alongside them.
