Summary

Dead or Alive 2 for the Dreamcast is one impressive 3D fighting game. The environments are one of the best aspects of this game because you are no longer limited to one arena. If during a fight you knock your opponent off the side of a building you are no longer guaranteed victory. Your character leaps after them to finish the bout. If during a fight you knock your opponent off the side of a building you are no longer guaranteed victory. Your character leaps after them to finish the bout. The control method is similar to the Virtua Fighter and Tekken series. Combinations of button presses and directions on the controller lead to big multi-hit combos. All out attacking will only get you so far, to be really good you need to be able to block and counter. The game engine is flexible and allows juggles or floating combos. When you knock your opponent in the air it’s possible to get a few hits they can’t block in before they hit the ground.

Graphically this is one amazing title. Using the power of the Dreamcast, Dead or Alive 2 has lots of realistic, subtle touches such as snow blowing across the floor of a level. The resolution is as high as a television can go and all the textures are clear and smooth. The attention to detail is astounding helping create a believable world. The music is heavy rock and whether you’ll like it is down to personal preference but still it’s appropriate to the game. Dead or Alive 2 has several game modes to choose from including story, time attack, survival and even a two on two mode. There is a lot to this game and you won’t be putting it down in a hurry.
