Virtua Fighter 2 for the PC is like having an impressive piece of arcade history and technology in your own home. Even by today’s standards, VF2 can still hold its head up high. The PC version allows for bi-linear filtering on the textures to smooth out the pixelation effect. You can even run the game in a resolution mode that is twice anything an arcade monitor can handle.

The gameplay is intentionally realistic. Virtua Fighter ‘shuns’ the idea of fireball projectiles and combat is up close and personal. Learning the priority of moves, the effectiveness of juggle combos and mastering blocking techniques is essential for mastery of this game. Varying your attacks is equally important, a computer or human opponent will quickly adapt to repetitive moves.

New characters include Shun Di and Leon Rafale. Both new characters have an impressive repertoire of moves and each has their own unique style. Shun Di is a drunken master, his age reflects his cunning but his weirdness makes him difficult to fight against. Leon is a 15 year-old French boy fighting for the right the leave his gang. Leon uses a crane style of fighting and has some damaging combination attacks.

Overall, there is an immense amount of depth to Virtua Fighter 2, it takes years to truly master it. Be warned, two-player sessions have been rumoured to last for days.
