Can anyone hear that sound? It's the sound of developers ringing the death bell of PC gaming.

This trend seems to be catching, and while I don't play on my PC like I used to, I can totally understand why PC gamers would be pissed about it. I'm sure if many console games had the same server options, plenty of games would still have an audience.

With the servers for Chrome Hounds being shut down in January 09, there's nothing worse than buyng an online game, and getting no online play, old game or not. Perhaps many MMOs might also not go the same deathly way too, if you could host you own game with a corporate server on PC.

Why is modding and tuning such a problem for them? Its been staple stuff for many PC games for years

I still think, that this is a corporate decision, more than a technical and cost one, designed to screw gamers that mod, because modding is obviously means you are a pirate. Technical PC people know the difference, but corporate suits do not, and if they do, ignore the difference.

If your sales are low, don't get butt hurt about it, id and IW.
