Big action films like Hellboy2 / Dark Knight and documentaries with HD photography (e.g. Planet Earth) are massively improved by Blu-Ray. The sound is much better too, assuming you have a good 5.1 system and visuals improve from 32" (on a 720p) and you really need 40" or more for 1080p. With the right kit, it's fantastic - but minimal benefit otherwise.

There is minimal improvement from 720p to 1080p I have compared my 40inch 720p set to my friends 40inch 1080p and my parents 50inch 1080p the screen is shiny thats about it but image quality minimal improvement.

Also blu-ray doesn't mean the movies are improved its all about the space because you could easily put a hd movie on a dvd if there was enough space.

its all about the space... well f**kin' duh. what exactly is a blu ray disk, but a dvd with more space on it.

also, TV quality isn't just about how much resolution it has. there are plenty of other specifications that go along with it. for the last time you cant say something is fact just from your own personal experiences SS4. just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. you may have an amazing quality 720p screen, and you're parent's/"friend's" 1080p screens might be not top line, good TVs.

from my own experience, i have a copy of the same film on dvd and on blu ray (the blu ray was free with my ps3) and i watched them both, from my ps3, on my 26" 720p screen. now, to tell you the truth, i didnt really see the difference. they both looks pretty good, not so much of a step up from dvd quality at all.

then, i watched the blu ray, through my ps3 on my girlfriend's parents 42" 1080p screen. and i never thought id say it, but i was blown away, the image was f**king amazing. also, the player you use is important, we watched the dark knight on dvd through her dad's upscaling dvd player, and it looked terrible. but through the ps3 it looked pretty good.

so yeah.
harotori on SuperSaiyan4: "your a smug hypocritical t**t and your a poor excuse for a gamer SS4, you give the 360, gamers and the games industry a bad name, Jack Thompson would bum you!"

LMFAO!! Hahahahaha most stupidist comment ever 'and you're parent's/"friend's" 1080p screens might be not top line, good TVs.'

Yeah the top spec Samsung's which have the same panels as the Sony HDTV's which are S-PVA panels, not top of the line my ass.

Stop kidding yourself the image quality from 720p to 1080p is not have much different.
