Commodore 64, Amiga, Spectrum Games to be Re-Released

Properly on tapes and everything, not inside a rubbish phone.

The usually crippling disappointment of retro gaming might have been cast a line of hope today as a hugely impressive roll-out of original format software is announced by Alten8 Ltd. The firm has signed a deal with leading retro-publisher Cronosoft, allowing “…many of its classics to be released for the real machines.”

Targeting Commodore 64, Spectrum and Amiga enthusiasts amongst others, Alten8 will be manufacturing and distributing tapes and discs for original home computers.

Paul Andrews, head of the Alten8 Ltd group, said "We have a passion for retro gaming, and feel that our games shouldn't just be available on emulators, but on the real deal too. We're delighted to be working with Cronosoft to make this a reality."

Head of Cronosoft Simon Ullyatt added, "It's great to publish games as they were intended to be released, on cassette tape or disc. Emulators are great, but you just can't beat the feel of a real machine."

A full release schedule will be announced at the Classic Gaming Expo UK to be held in London on August 13th this year.

SPOnG is aware that we have many readers from the games industry of old. Developers who still own any IP from a retro system can head here to find out more.

I kind of missed the Commodre/Spectrum/Amiga scene. Bit too young. In fact because I hadn't it was actually quite tempting to slag them off, but in a fit of hypocrisy would love them forever were they to rerelease Gunster Heroes...

I've gone back and played my old specturm games recently. I also tried running some on emulators on the pc. some of them I remember being great but now just look and feel rubbish.
but there are still some gems in there!
skool daze/back2skool are still genius. as is rebelsatr as is swos on the amiga and I'm sure paradroid is on the c64.
I cannot believe that nobody has updated games like that. well skool daze for one. not so much make an updated version of the game (there is a pc udate of skool daze called klass of 99 I think?)
It's the fact that none has taken the idea and made something new out of it that I can't believe.

Not an official update, but this looks interesting.

Of course, it will pale in comparison to the monolithic Skool Daze

Julian Gollop? He the creator of Chaos?

The only Spectrum game that still provides a gaming experience that's actually good?

Didn't realise he was still in the industry. F**king excellent.

Since you didn't mention it, I think you might have missed thie link in my first post; try clicking the "This". Klass of '99 is great...

And the Rebelstar's for the GBA, not the DS, but it's still looking great - http://www.namco.com/games/rebelstar/ has more info on it. Yes, I know it's published by Namco, but trust me, it's a Gollop game through and through. If given a rather anime-esque graphical overhaul.
