Summary
Formed in 1987 by Scott Miller, and origrinally based in his home in Garland, Texas, Apogee pioneered the use of Shareware to popularise their PC action games.
Apogee are also famous for introducing the concept of cheat codes to games.
The company's big break came in 1992 when it became publisher of id Software's Wolfenstein 3D. As such, Apogee helped foster the most influential game genre of the 1990s, the first person shooter.
The company later produced one of the genre's most famous titles, when, under the 3D Realms name, they produced Duke Nukem 3D.
Software Highlights from Credited Titles
Apogee's first work that SPOnG is aware of is the 1990 title, "Commander Keen: Marooned on Mars" (PC).
The company has been involved titles released on the PC, PSP, DS, Spectrum 48K and Apple II.
The company is currently involved with the forthcoming 2009 release "Duke Nukem Trilogy: Critical Mass" (DS).
