Founded in 1980 by Doug and Gary Carlston, Broderbund's first releases were Galactic Trader and Galactic Empire. The company went on to publish the hugely succesful titles that spawned the Carmen Sandiego, Choplifter!, Prince of Persia and Myst brands.
In 1998 the company was acquired by The Learning Company where the brand continued as a wholly-owned subsidiary. TLC later changed hands several times, owned by Gores, Mattel and UbiSoft, where the Broderbund brand and its famous titles continue to thrive.
