Coming to America: Red DS

Not confirmed for variant-starved Eurotrash though

Coming to America: Red DS
Something that Nintendo has long taken advantage of is the obscure joy their fans take in seeing a Nintendo product in a different colour to the one it was initially released in. The policy can be traced back to the Game Boy Pocket and N64 controller, and is even more firmly embedded in the company’s tactical mantra than disappointing announcements and software re-issues.

We all know how outrageously spoilt the Japanese are when it comes to choice of DS colours, and now even our transatlantic chums are getting in on the act, with news that the natty red DS will soon be available there. It’s being released to coincide with the arrival of the hotly anticipated Mario Kart, as red has been the official colour of the franchise since Double Dash came in a red box.

Though we too can expect to see the long awaited, online enabled Mario Kart DS soon enough, there’s been no mention of whether we’ll be able to get our mitts on any new console colours. As you’d expect, we’ll keep you posted.

Oooh, nice timing. I'm going over to the US again, in November, same time as I managed to pick up my DS in launch week last time. Wonder if I'll be able to get a reasonable trade-in price and get myself one of these red ones instead? The alternative is to pass on my DS to my nephew, though, he seemed to like playing on it last time he visited...

The import shop near me does all the colours anyway, including limited editions like the Mew one, Pokémon Park and so on.

Still, looking in their window it's pretty shocking to see around 8 different colours of DS and then next door in Game they're selling just one...

Next time I'm at the Metrocentre, I'll be sure to.

I always thought they should redesign the DS and bring that out in different colours. Nothing drastic, just knock some of the rough edges off the thing.
I never liked the way that the two halves don't fit together. It should be seemless but it isn't.
I love my DS but I do admit it's not the prettiest.

i don't think the flush fit thing woudl be good... if the top and bottom where flat it woudl be rather uncomfortable... especially ont he joint of the thumb... only way i could see that working is to make the top half convex so its wraps around the bottom... but that would most likely end up rather silly looking... but im no industrial designer, so maybe someone could make it work.
