Nintendo DS: Complete first party round-up - screens and details inside

Ten top titles (and a Mah Jong game) for DS pioneering stage

Posted by Staff
NDS confirmations were coming thick and fast at the end of last week, making SPOnG a little giddy in the process. In case the enormous avalanche of screen-shots (which cascades all the way down this page) and summaries passed you by, we thought we’d take this opportunity to highlight the first-party titles which should accompany the machine on its launch day, or which are due to follow in the subsequent weeks.

Check this lot out...

ADVANCE WARS DS
Based on the fantastic DS strategy game, the second screen ought to help switching between maps
even more user-friendly.

ANOTHER
An intriguing adventure/RPG style game with a conspiratorial storyline and puzzle-solving gameplay.

BAND BROTHERS
A Nintendo Bemani title... judging by the quality of Donkey Konga, that has got to be a good thing.

MARIO KART DS
It does exactly what it says on the box, with two screens. Any Mario Kart title is bound to sell well.

METROID PRIME HUNTERS
A key FPS styled title, a demo of which will come bundled with the machine itself. The wi-fi multiplayer mode is also shaping up to be quite special.

POKEMON DASH
A top-down Pokemon racing game, logically enough, with a host of unlockable goodies for Pokemon collector types.

PUPPY TIMES
The new name for Nintendogs, this is basically a virtual pet simulator with added bells and whistles.

SUPER MARIO 64 DS
The key launch title, this is a re-working on the N64 favourite, offering wi-fi multiplayer for 4 people (even if there’s only one cart between you – which there probably won’t be, everyone who gets a DS will get a copy of this anyway)

WARIO WARE INC. DS
GBA and Cube owners will be familiar with this concept already, and the touch-screen function makes the simplistic gameplay all the more enjoyable. This will be another key launch title.

YAKUMAN DS
Clearly intended for the Japanese market, this first-party Mahjong game features Mario’s extended family and acquaintances. Yakuman probably won’t be released outside of Japan.

YOSHI'S TOUCH
This is the new, or alternative, name for Balloon Trip; the E3 displayed game that sees a baby Mario falling though the skies, rescued only by swiftly stylus-sketched clouds. This is sure to be one of the top DS titles.

A strong line-up. Another looks excellent. I just hope Nintendo can get some pure adult titles in addition to their own library.
