Sony’s PSX hybrid machine due for public prodding
As the afterglow of Sony’s PSX announcement fades into apathy, the firm’s Consumer Electronics division has revealed that the hybrid hard disc/DVD/PlayStation 2 extravaganza will be shown in Tokyo next week to the general public for the first time.

Headlining the CEATEC Japan Show, which is held at Makuhari, the delicious-looking machine will be on public showcase for the first time.

And most importantly, global launch dates and price points are expected to be announced, according to Sony Japan officials. We’ll bring you updates of what to expect next week, though it’s probably best to send some flowers to your bank manager as it is widely expected that the PSX is going to be a prohibitively expensive piece of kit.

In other news, we recently contacted five Sony Centres in the UK to see if they had any idea as to when the machine will be hitting retail. As you may know, the PSX is being handled by Sony Consumer Electronics, not the firm’s Computer Entertainment division that handles all other PlayStation-related business, so the chain of Sony Centres will be the key retail outlet for the high-end device. Alarmingly, they all told us that there were no plans to stock it as of this time.

We’ll bring you any developments as they break.
