Electronic Arts: ‘Next-generation console war is Sony’s call’

It would appear that Electronic Arts, the world largest third-party publisher, sees that the next move in the hardware business, at least of any consequence, must come from Sony Computer Entertainment.

Somewhat surprisingly, Electronic Art’s chief financial officer stated that the firm was already in talks with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo about the next instalments of three home consoles. Though the stance of the firm is that the PlayStation 3 is what will trigger the market.

“Today we're already in discussion with Sony, with Microsoft, with Nintendo on the next generation of consoles," said EA CFO Warren Jensen. "When do we think the transition would occur? Sometime around 2005, 2006 - that's really Sony's call to make."

Interesting. Oh, if only we had a time machine…
