The PlayStation 4 beat out the Xbox One to become the best-selling home console in the UK for 2013 in the final week of the year, according to MCV.
The publication says Sony sold 530,000 of the consoles, beating the Xbox One by just a few thousand. The 530,000 figure matches the number provided by the Entertainment Retailer Association a little over a week ago
. The ERA, however, said that 364,000 Xbox Ones were sold - that would put the difference at more than a few thousand.
The difference might be accounted for by one set of figures being sell-through to retail and the other being actual units bought by customers if the PS4 number wasn't an exact match in both reports.
Regardless of the discrepancy, the PS4 still
wasn't the best-selling games machine overall, with the handheld 3DS claiming that title.
“We are delighted with the very strong sales of PS4 to date,” said Fergal Gara, PlayStation UK's MD.
“Since we unveiled the console, gamers have shown huge interest in the PS4. Our focus now is rebuilding stock levels so those have not been able to get a PS4 can finally experience the next-gen. I’d like to thank the gamers, our retail and publishing partners who played a big part in making this success possible.”
