Xbox Halo AI to Rival Apple's Siri
Who doesn't own a smart phone these days? Mums, grans, hell, even family dogs seem to have some sort of hgih-tech mobile. What that means is that most of us know about Siri and Google Now, right?

And if you know about Siri and Google Now, you know that they relate to Android phones and iPhones, but we're forgetting the good old Windows phone, where's his virtual assistant?

Well, some guys have taken some leaks, some rumours and some public statements by Microsoft and pieced them together - their outcome is that Microsoft are working on their own virtual assistant - and she'll be named after Master Chief's AI assistant Cortana.

The clearest statement about what Microsoft may be up to comes from soon-to-be-retired CEO Steve Ballmer, in a memo from July. He said the following:

"Our UI will be deeply personalized, based on the advanced, almost magical, intelligence in our cloud that learns more and more over time about people and the world. Our shell will natively support all of our essential services, and will be great at responding seamlessly to what people ask for, and even anticipating what they need before they ask for it.".

The details are all very vague at the minute, but it looks as though Cortana will attempt to fly ahead of both Siri and Google Now and probably implement features from both AIs.

What do you guys think? Does Microsoft really need a virtual assistant? And what about the name? We quite like it, but post your thoughts below!

Hahahahahahaha.

Rivalling Siri is no great challenge. It's a heap. The "AI" might be ok, but the voice rec is a turd. 50% of the time it either doesn't respond to my query or tells me "I can't help you with that right now" because the data network (or Apple's server capacity) is up the spout.

Google's voice rec, is markedly better. If you're using Chrome & have a mic on you PC, just try clicking the mic symbol on SPOnG's search bar and speaking your query.
