A University of Wisconsin physician has received a $2 million grant to develop a game helps faculty members "to recognize their biases against women, minorities and people with disabilities".Recipient Molly Carnes will be working with members in the Games, Learning and Society group to create a program that aims to put players in various social situations, and assess how they approach colleagues of different sex, minorities and those with disabilities.
One example given was that a user could assume the role of an Asian teacher and experience how students would treat her. In making the player think about their own biases, it will aim to help nurture a more diverse faculty, Carnes said.
