The Charts: Tom Clancy has a Colourful Easter

Mario and Sonic aren't quite fast enough

26 Mar 2008

The Easter weekend has come and gone and left Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 from Ubisoft at the top of the All Formats Charts.

Vegas 2's grabbing of the top spot has given Ubisoft its first All Formats Number 1 of the year and the Tom Clancy franchise the fifth Number 1 of its lifetime. It joins Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, Lockdown and GRAW 2. 77% of the game's sales go to the Xbox 360, while the PS3 makes up the rest. The 360 version sells 3.6 as many times as the first Rainbow Six Vegas game did on that format.

Got time for some more little factoids about Rainbow Six Vegas 2? Good, because it's also the fourth fastest selling 360 game in the UK... ever, coming in behind Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed.

The tactical shooter's climb to the top means that SEGA's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is relegated to Number 2, despite a 60% jump in sales.

Activision nabs the next two spots, with CoD4 climbing two spots from Number 5 to Number 3, while Guitar Hero III is up from Number 7 to Number 4.

Electronic Arts' Army of Two is the only Top 10 game to lose sales, dropping from Number 2 all the way down to Number 8. SEGA manages to serve up a second Top 10 entry, sneaking in at Number 10 with SEGA Superstars Tennis.

The release of the Wii version of CSI: Hard Evidence sees a re-entry for Ubisoft's TV tie-in, pushing it back into the Top 40 at Number 24. Just behind it is a first Chart appearance (in its second week of release) for Vivendis' The Spiderwick Chronicles at Number 26.

Easter promotions give both 505 Games' Cooking Mama and Sony's Resistance: Fall of Man reappearences in the Top 40, with the titles grabbing Numbers 29 and 30 respectively.

In next week's Charts keep an eye out for Konami's PES 2008 on the Wii, SEGA's Football Manager 2008 on the 360, God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for the PS3, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops + for the PSP and House of the Dead 2 & 3: Return on the Wii. Yes, it looks like no one told many of the major games publishers that Easter already happened.

Below you can see the All Formats Top 10, while you can see the whole Top 40 here. Because it doesn't get enough attention, we've also decided to show off the Budget Top 10. Last week's positions are tucked safely in brackets. If you didn't know, you can always find comprehensive Chart listings on SPOnG right here.

I am impressed that the game is better than the previous but Ubisoft seem to be struggly immensly with making the AI in the game any better, it seems they can only improve on it a tiny bit at a time as the AI is not realistic at all especially in realistic mode. The AI of your team mates is still lacking a bit and Ubisoft have gone backwards since the mouths dont seem to move on my character when he talks.

Also what happened to when you could plug in the headset and give voice commands? And the mouth of your character would move? It was on the original Xbox...Also the graphics on Vegas 2 aren't amazing it just seems slightly tweaked, however GRAW looks far better shame that team cant make the Rainbow games and use some of the AI from SplinterCell.
