The wait is over, Ninja Gaiden 2 has been confirmed for the Xbox 360. After a countdown which started yesterday, details, screens and a super-short trailer have emerged on the official Xbox website.
The game – which follows up Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox back in 2004 – will feature an “all-new” gameplay engine, “developed from the ground up” by Team Ninja and developer Tomonobu Itagaki, creator of the Dead or Alive franchise, and a “new auto-health regeneration system”.
To coincide with the details released on the Xbox site, the game also got a bit of a showing at the Pre-Tokyo Game Show Microsoft Presser. "I know many fans think the first one is flawless", said Itagaki. "But the team doesn't always think that... Please enjoy the world's best action game, running on the world's best hardware” he modestly added.
In case you're bothered about the storyline, SPOnG can confirm that there is one. Just. Ryu is on a quest to avenge his clan and prevent the destruction of the human race. Yup, Team Ninja has gone all out on the story with this one.

We all know, however, that the point is really fast, bloody gameplay, and that's what Microsoft is promising. “...experience the new 'finishing blows' system that combines gore with fast action and a well-honed combat system”, the official bumf tells us. If the screens below are anything to go by, Team Ninja may well deliver.
You can find out more about Ninja Gaiden 2 over on SPOnG's dedicated game page.
